- 「This proves that social media causes depression」会被教授打回票；改成「This would appear to suggest that social media may contribute to depression」才是学术写法。
- Hedging（保留语气）就是不把话说死：承认不确定性、给自己留余地、显得客观谨慎。
- 常用工具：情态动词、表示可能性的副词/形容词、appear/seem、被动报告结构（is thought to...）。
- 学术写作、商务邮件、给上司提意见时都用得到；马来西亚学生写论文常犯的问题就是语气太绝对。

- 准确：研究结果通常只能「支持」某说法，不能「证明」
- 礼貌：批评或拒绝别人时语气比较软
- 保护自己：留余地，万一有例外不会被抓住把柄

别 hedge 过头
❌ It could perhaps possibly be suggested that this might maybe be a factor.
✅ This may be a factor.
一句话里一个到两个 hedge 就够，叠太多等于什么都没说。
