  • "Show, don't tell"

  • Show, don't tell:
  • Free indirect speech:去掉 "he thought that..."

  • Telling(陈述):"Michael was terribly afraid of the dark."(迈克尔非常怕黑。)
  • Showing(展示):"As his mother switched off the light and left the room, Michael tensed. He huddled under the covers, gripped the sheets, and held his breath as the wind brushed past the curtain."(母亲关灯离开房间后,迈克尔僵住了。
  • 过度堆砌(应避免):"The statue felt rough, its aged facade caked with dust and grime as I weighed it in my hand, observing its jagged curves and Fanta-colored hue."(细节太满,读起来反而累。)
It was heavier than it looked. Some of the orange facade crumbled in my hand as I picked it up."(它比看起来重。
  • Free indirect speech:"Nattan stood looking out the window. Benn wasn't home, so who should he give it to?"(纳坦站在窗边望着外面。

She was very sad and angry about the news."
✅ "She read the letter twice, then set it down carefully, as if it might shatter."

I woke up. The sun was shining through the gap in the curtains, casting a thin golden line across the wooden floor, and I could hear birds..."
✅ "I woke up late — the sun was already high."
